Just a Dream

Perhaps it was a dream, she thought. Perhaps if she pinched herself, she would wake up. But she didn’t want to wake up. She wanted to stay in this dream world where she was lying beside her love.

His chest slowly went up and down with his peaceful breathing. She laid her cold hand upon his breast and felt his warmth rush into her body. It felt as though all was right with the world and time seemed to stop and savor their perfection. With her head now rested upon his chest, the sound of his heartbeat and the lovely bird song created a symphony that was solely was her. She wished to stay in this world of peace and bliss for all eternity. The man beside her stirred for only a moment to place his strong arm around her back and pull her tightly to him. She placed a light kiss upon the hand gripping her shoulder, and buried her head into his gentle embrace. In this final moment of warmth, peace, and love, the young woman smiled and sighed as the world around her faded into darkness.

Moments later, she awoke in her bed. Her body faced the window where a few birds had gathered to sing their songs of love. As she stretched her rested body, she turned over and felt something beside her. Her eyes met those of her love, and his smile beamed brighter than the sun. He kissed her forehead and she realized that her deepest wish had come true.
